The sources were the eyewitnesses to history. When I started fact checking my most recent book on the Memoirs of Captain Samuel Bellamy, I found a few sources of impeccable provenance, that is to say they were written by contemporaries who knew of the pirates, the shipwreck and the trials of the pirates.
